Last night marked another successful wine night. A combination of great ladies, wine, a quiz (I love a quiz), was always going to be a recipe for a great night. Lindsay and Julianna introduced the group to some lovely wines while giving us some tips on how to describe the wines flavours. I love a bit of learning while also consuming!
We had a perfect three days at Kerala Koh Samet. Sebastian loved the fire shows, learned how to surf and spent all day every day outside doing things. The bay were we only had a few hotels and I was worried about the food situation but we found some of the best vegan food I have had for ages. Our school recently changed policy to give us three personal days, I think partially as to allow people time out of the city. I can say it was appreciated and helped.
I suppose if I wanted to try and put a positive spin on everything, the pollution for these three months a year is getting us out of the city a lot. I am determined to have Sebastian in clean air at least every other weekend. During the week they are often stuck with indoor play and our pool is hard to get too. I am so thankful we have air filters and a large apartment but still it is not enough. Although the other weekend I met a family who had just moved from Senegal, their favourite thing about their move to Bangkok is how clean the air is! I suppose all relative, in Senegal it was twice our levels. But either way trying to escape. This has brought us to the closest island from Bangkok, 2.5 hour drive and 10 minute boat across. It is beautiful and lovely to be by the sea.
The best thing about having guests (besides actually seeing the guests) is doing all the things that you should do all the time. Seeing the sights, taking advantage of your own neighbourhood and finding nice restaurants. Sunday, I thought it would be nice to explore a park that I have always wanted too. Benjakitti park has these bridges that go over a 'forest'. It was super beautiful and I even saw two owls in the trees. We had a lovely morning exploring and then home for a meal before they headed to Phuket by bus.
Bridget and Jamie were quite keen to see what we like about Bangkok. As I try very hard not to leave my 1/2km radius it was pretty easy to see all our hots spots. We started Saturday at the nearby mall, not my favourite spot they needed some stuff. We then headed don our canal to the Jim Thompson House. Again, not my favourite spot but I had heard it as a nice place to walk around and eat. He is famous for the silk trade and then going missing. I found this bi annoying as really hate an unfinished story. The lunch there as meant to be 'interesting' and 'posh' but I found the plates small and expensive. At this point I felt I as letting them down. But luckily are night time spots were all great. Our Thai meal at a local restaurant as amazing. Then we did a little bar hopping and it was just the perfect night.
